Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degress.

Step 2

Grease and flour 2 round layer pans

Step 3

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, mixing well

Add shortening, milk and vanilla, mixing just until combined

In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form

Step 6

Carefully fold egg whites into cake batter in two stages

Step 7

Pour into pan(s).

Step 8

Bake oblong 35 to 40 minutes, layers 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool.

Step 9

Blend all icing ingredients until smooth.

Step 10

Use icing for filling layer and icing cake
