Step by Step Method

Step 1

Mix vineager, brown sugar, ketchup and soy sauce together in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil while whisking. Remove from heat.

Step 2

Mix up water and cornstarch to make a slurry, and add to the other ingredients and return to heat. Whisk while it thickens, this will happen quickly. Remove from heat and cool, If you are using the pineapple and marichino cherries, add them now.

This is an excellent quick sauce that went really well with cream cheese wontons. I think I would love the addition of pineapple, but didn't have any fresh or even canned on hand. This sauce is much better than the little packets that come with frozen egg rolls, etc. and gives them a bit of homemade flavor. Thanks, Dissie!
