Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place the two Earl Grey tea bags in a heatproof bowl.

Step 2

Pour the boiling water over the tea bags.

Step 3

Allow the tea to steep for about 5-7 minutes, then remove the tea bags. Let the tea cool to room temperature.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch (23x13 cm) loaf pan.

Step 5

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, lightly beat the eggs.

Step 7

Add the vegetable oil or melted butter, plain yogurt or buttermilk, lemon zest, and vanilla extract to the beaten eggs. Mix well.

Step 8

Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix; some lumps are okay.

Step 9

Gradually pour in the cooled Earl Grey tea infusion, folding it into the batter until evenly incorporated.

Step 10

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 12

Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 13

For the glaze, in a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, fresh lemon juice, and 1-2 teaspoons of brewed Earl Grey tea until you achieve a smooth glaze consistency.

Step 14

Once the bread is completely cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top.
