"There are many variations of Ham and Beans and this recipe has been a work in progress and I am happy with the results. I think by not soaking the beans they have better texture and flavor. I have used the 15 bean mix with great results just omit the ham flavor packet."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Add onion and celery to crock pot, place ham bone or hocks on top of onion and celery.

Step 2

Pour rinsed beans around ham and sprinkle with pepper, add bay leaves, garlic and chicken stock, stir to combine all ingredients cover and cook on low for about 8 hours.

Step 3

When ham is tender (6-7 hours) Remove meat from bones (discarding fat and bones) and return meat to the pot. Stir to combine and break up ham pieces.

Step 4

When done skim any fat off and discard bay leaves, to thicken, smash some of the beans on the side of crock pot.

The crock pot is a lifesaver during the hot weather. These beans are awesome! I used ham hocks and they gave them loads of flavor! We had the beans with burgers on the grill. So good!
