  • When selecting the crabmeat, make sure to check for any hard shells and remove them before adding it to the mixture.
  • For the best flavor, use freshly grated Gruyère cheese instead of pre-shredded.

  • Substitute the lump crabmeat with cooked and shredded chicken - This substitution is great for those who want a more accessible and budget-friendly ingredient. It also adds a different flavor profile to the dish.
  • Substitute the Gruyere cheese with Cheddar - This substitution is great for those who want a more mild flavor. The cheddar cheese will still provide a nice, cheesy flavor, but won't be quite as sharp as Gruyere.

Vegetarian Version Replace the crabmeat and shrimp with 3/4 cup of cooked quinoa and 1/2 cup of diced bell peppers. Increase the amount of mayonnaise and dill to 1 cup and 4 tablespoons respectively. Top the toasts with the quinoa mixture, tomatoes, and cheese. Broil for 3 minutes or until cheese melts. Sprinkle with black pepper and remaining 1/2 tablespoon dill. Serve immediately.

Tomato and Basil Salad - This light and refreshing salad is the perfect accompaniment to the rich and savory flavors of the Crab or Shrimp Gruyère Crostini Appetizers. The bright and tangy tomatoes and fresh basil will help to balance out the heavier flavors of the crostini and provide a nice contrast.

Roasted Asparagus with Lemon and Parmesan - This simple side dish is the perfect complement to the Tomato and Basil Salad and the Crab or Shrimp Gruyère Crostini Appetizers. The roasted asparagus brings a savory flavor to the plate, while the lemon and Parmesan provide a bright and tangy contrast. The asparagus also adds a nice crunch to the meal.

This recipe is so delicious. I couldn't get the small envelope of crab only the pound tin and that was too much so I used artificial crab - not the same but still very tasty. The gruyere was warm right through but didn't completely melt. I will be making these again, next time with real crab..28 Apr. 19 Attractive tasty appetizer.
