"In colonial days they didn't have a whole lot of stuff to put into their baking. This one is like that. The first time that I made it I didn't think it would be very good, but found out that it was sweet and great when toasted in the toaster with lots of butter. It is very similar to a brown bread that we would have on a Saturday night with Baked Beans but without the raisins."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Mix whole wheat flour, white flour, brown sugar, and soda together; slowly add the buttermilk till blended.

Step 2

Put into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
