Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Step 2

Scatter potato tots evenly in bottom of 12-inch ovenproof skillet (not all tots will touch). Bake 15 minutes.

Step 3

Meanwhile, cook ground beef in skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink and cooked to a safe internal temperature of 160°F, 5-7 minutes. Drain grease. Season with salt and pepper; set aside.

Step 4

In small bowl, stir mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. Set aside.

Step 5

Remove skillet from oven. Use bottom of measuring cup to mash potato tots, forming a crust. Top with 1 cup cheese, then layer with beef. Drizzle with half of sauce. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese, then drizzle with remaining sauce. Scatter pickles and tomato over top.

Step 6

Bake 10 minutes. Cut and serve, refrigerating any leftovers.

The ease of this dish makes it more than worthy to make, but then came how it tastes. Tastes just like a burger without the bun, with the added goodness of those beloved tater tots that we all love so much. Made me able to cook dinner on a worknight doable even with an added appointment. Followed as directed, but used a 9 x 13, a bit more than a pound of ground beef, in place of salt, used McCormicks Worcestershire Pub Burger seasoning to taste, and more of the burger sauce to be able to cover more surface. Thank you, Teresa, for this keeper.
