"Apples and creamy caramel in a flaky cobbler crust. Yes please! You can make early in the day and bake it right before dinner. Use my mom's pie crust recipe, or if you're a beginner, my sister Lauren's, both under my recipes. It will take a double pie crust recipe."

Meanwhile remove first pie dough from fridge, place on floured surface and roll into a rectangle 13" long. Slice into 1 1/4 inch strips. Criss-cross strips on bottom and around sides of pyrex pan. When first dough used up, roll out second in same manner, using it to finish bottom and sides, but saving some for top.

Step 8

Step 9

Pour apples into pyrex. Stir pecans and sugars together and sprinkle over apples.

Step 10

  • Choose apples that are firm and crisp for best results.
  • For the crust, it is best to use cold butter for a flaky texture.

  • Substitute almond milk for heavy whipping cream: This substitution will make the cobbler lighter and lower in fat, while still providing a creamy texture.
  • Substitute coconut sugar for granulated sugar: This substitution will add a slight caramel flavor to the cobbler and provide a healthier alternative to refined sugar.

Caramel Apple Cobbler Prepare the crust and filling as directed. For the topping, mix 1/2 cup caramel sauce with 1/4 cup chopped pecans and spread over the apples. Place the strips of dough on top and brush with egg white and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar as directed. Bake for 1 hour.

Vanilla Ice Cream: Cool down the warm Apple Caramel Cobbler with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream. The sweetness of the ice cream perfectly complements the tartness of the apples and the richness of the caramel.

Whipped Cream: Top off the Apple Caramel Cobbler with a dollop of freshly whipped cream. The creaminess of the cream will balance the sweetness of the ice cream and the tartness of the apples, making it a perfect accompaniment to the cobbler.

FAQ

Q: How do I avoid my apples from browning?

A: Toss the apples with lemon juice as you slice them and add it to the pot. This will help prevent them from browning.

Q: How do I make a pie crust from scratch?

A: To make a pie crust from scratch, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 2/3 cup of shortening in a medium bowl. Cut the shortening into the flour mixture with a pastry blender until it resembles coarse crumbs. Then, add 5-7 tablespoons of cold water and mix until the dough comes together.
