Step by Step Method

Step 1

Peel an slice 2 onions; fry in oil until golden. Add turmeric, tomato paste, salt and pepper.

Step 2

Add beef stock; add split peas; cook 10 minutes

Step 3

Wash rice; add to soup; cook for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Peel and grate remaining 2 onions.

Step 5

Add to meat with egg; shape into small balls; add to soup.

Step 6

Wash herbs; mince fine; add to soup; cook 10 minutes.

Step 7

Fry mint in oil; chop finely; if fresh add to top of soup like garnish.

I made this with a couple of changes. I thought I had basmati rice. I did not. I had to use white long grain rice. I also did not grate the two onions that went into the hamburger. I chopped them very finely instead. Apparently that is why they did not stay together. It was still very good. We sprinkled a little curry on top of our bowls.
