"Some recipes have Portuguese sausage. The recipe is from the 1969 Star Bulletin that was later posted again in '89 to celebrate statehood. They also said to have added 2 tablespoons mayonnaise so I'm adding that. I'm cooking in a crockpot."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Get spices ready on plate.

Step 2

Brown beef, onion, bell pepper, celery and bacon.

Step 3

Season lightly.

Step 4

In crockpot combine beef mixture with rest of ingredients except mayonnaise.

Step 5

Cook on low for 8 hours.

Step 6

Add water as needed.

Step 7

Season to taste.

Step 8

Add mayonnaise at very end.
