"Macaroni Pie is a staple here in Trinidad and one of the first dishes I learnt to make. Eat it on it's own with ketchup and pepper or serve alongside any type of meat, veggie or bean dish which has lots of gravy. Totally delicious! Some people even add in some grated carrots or chopped pimentos before baking. I like mine plain with lots of black pepper."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Boil macaroni in water until tender and drain.

Step 2

Crack eggs into a bowl and beat until fluffy.

Step 3

Combine macaroni, eggs, cheese, milk, salt and pepper.

Step 4

Pour into a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees F. until firm, about 30 minutes. Let sit for about 30 minutes before serving.

Step 5

Note: Baking time won't change no matter what type of dish you use. You can use a loaf pan, 8 inch square dish or even a cake pan. Thickness will vary depending on which dish you bake it in. You can stick this under the broiler to brown the top if desired.

Step 6

Note 2: I won't recommend using a cheese like parmesan for this recipe but if you prefer mozzarella, jarlsberg or pepper jack instead of cheddar, go for it.

This was an easy to make baked macaroni & cheese dish. It's definitely not like the boxed kind my kids beg for, but once they got over the shock of it not being "like Kraft" they settled in and enjoyed it. It's plain (in a good way), so it would be easy to add spices that you like. We added Lawry's Seasoned Salt (because we do to every dish like this).

Family really loved this recipe as it was a nice mix up from the boxed macaroni and cheese. Nice comfort food!

This is such a simple and easy recipe to make! I did make a mistake ~ that was completely my own fault - Being lazy I did not measure the pasta so I know I used just a little too much, and the macaroni was not as creamy as it could have been, although it still was totally delicious! Everyone comment on how good the aroma was whilst the pie was in the oven baking, and could not wait to try it. I served this 2 ways, first as a side for dinner, and secondly on its own with some onion relish the next night. Both ways were delicious! I will be making this again when I need my next macaroni fix.... although I might measure the pasta this time! ;-)

Picky Palate

I made this to have with hot dogs, since my family loves macaroni and cheese so much. It was loved by all. I like how you can slice it. It had lots of yummy cheese and the eggs helped to hold it all together! It will be on our meal plan now!

My daughter wanted macaroni and cheese and I remembered seeing this here. I cut it down for two and proceeded to make it. I used a small round casserole dish, just big enough to hold everything. This is yummyness to the fullest degree! We both gobbled it down and loved how it tasted! I will make it often for us for lunches!
