Step by Step Method
Step 1
Cream shortening and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
Step 2
Add salt and 1 cup sifted flour.
Step 3
Mix until crumbly.
Step 4
Place in a well greased 7 x 11 inch pan.
Step 5
Bake in 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes.
FOR THE TOPPING
Step 6
While base is baking, mix 2 Tablespoons flour, baking powder, salt, and eggs.
Step 7
Add brown sugar.
Step 8
Gradually add vanilla.
Step 9
Add nuts and coconut.
Step 10
Pour over partially baked base.
Step 11
Return to 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for 25 minutes.
Step 12
Cut into bars.
Step 13
Yield depends on size of cuts.
