Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large saucepan, steam the green beans until crisp, about 5 minutes.

Step 2

Drain in a colander.

Step 3

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, dissolved cornstarch and pepper sauce.

Step 4

Spray a large nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray;heat. Stir-fry the green beans and garlic 2 minutes add the soy sauce mixture and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 3 minutes longer. stir in the bamboo shoots, (if using) and sesame oil, serve at once.

I used bamboo shoots instead of water chestnuts. Served these with a spicy orange roasted chicken, and they were perfect together. I did use a bit more garlic, but I tend to always use a bit more garlic. LOL.

I only used a half pound of beans, decided to use water chestnuts, but made the full amount of sauce. The sauce really jazzed things up.It's thickens nicely to enrobe the green beans. I also added it to another noodle dish that night too. The sauce does have a fairly strong tang from the vinegar. I may try rice vinegar next time. Either way I'll be making this one again!

Daily Inspiration

This is a really delicious way to serve green beans and it had just the right amount of heat. I served it alongside some orange ginger chicken and they really made a great meal.
