"Nothing is more iconic or speaks louder for the proud heritage of New York City than its skyline boasting the towering lady known as the Statue of Liberty. This is a recipe for the cocktail named in her honor. The pic of this cocktail has the characteristic red, white & blue stripes of the American Flag. Can't you just see yourself sipping this cocktail as you watch the Time Square clock countdown on New Year's Eve or while you watch fireworks light the skies on July 4th? However, you MUST read the Prep Steps in order to fully appreciate this recipe. ENJOY!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Pour the Grenadine into a shot glass. Then follow by gently layering (in sequence) white Crème de Cacao, Blue Curaçao & rum.

Step 2

Now here comes the OPTIONAL & too scary for me or anyone I know to try part - Using a match (NOT A LIGHTER), carefully light the cocktail in the shot glass. Hold the burning red, white & blue shot/torch high, like Lady Liberty. Sing the first few bars of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” blow out the flame & ENJOY your drink plus the fact you survived. If someone was smart enough to take a pic of your courage, I want to see it pls. :-)

Tips

  • No special items are required, but courage will help.

This didn't quite work out . The layers muddled together and no matter how hard I tried it wouldn't light. I finally poured some of the rum into a small ladle and lit that and tried to pour it into the drink but it just went out. The drink itself tasted better than I expected somewhat like candy, but was a little too sweet for us. Never the less, I lifted it up, sang a few bars and toasted this final round of the Culinary Quest 3! Made by one of the Iota Eta Pi

Being a proud citizen of the Home of the Brave, this was a challenge not to be missed. Unfortunately, I'm apparently not cut out to be a bartender. A disappointment, let me tell you! The first two layers set up nicely, but the Blue Curacao didn't cooperate. It mixed and then settled into a second layer. The rum mixed into the top layer, and then I couldn't get it to light. My fault, surely! Because I didn't have a match, so I used hubby's cigar lighter and a tightly rolled paper towel set alight. Yes, an adventure! And one tailor-made for our team, the Pi Rho Maniacs!!! One the plus side, it was a tasty concoction, that I promptly drained in order to assuage my disappointment. I'll not give up my day job... Made for Culinary Quest 2016.
