"This is right from 'Grandmas' recipe book - Classic Braised Red Cabbage. This was a staple when grandma made her beer braised pork roast on Sundays. It is that perfect blend of sweet and sour. Easy and inexpensive, but always delicious."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Onions and Apples ... Add the butter to a large heavy saute pan and bring to medium heat; then, add the onion and apples and saute until slightly tender, 4-5 minutes.

Step 2

Cabbage ... Then, add all the other ingredients to the onions and apples and mix to combine. Once everything has heated through, reduce the heat to low and simmer 1 hour covered until tender - stirring occasionally. The last 10 minutes, remove the lid to let the liquid reduce. At this point, check for any additional seasoning, and season with salt and pepper if necessary.

Step 3

Serve ... A braised pork roast is a great dish to serve with this. This is a fantastic side dish which is very easy to make. ENJOY!
