Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 medium red cabbage, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, cut in half and thin sliced
  • 1 red apple, peeled and fine diced (I used a gala)
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Onions and Apples ... Add the butter to a large heavy saute pan and bring to medium heat; then, add the onion and apples and saute until slightly tender, 4-5 minutes.

  • Step 2: Cabbage ... Then, add all the other ingredients to the onions and apples and mix to combine. Once everything has heated through, reduce the heat to low and simmer 1 hour covered until tender - stirring occasionally. The last 10 minutes, remove the lid to let the liquid reduce. At this point, check for any additional seasoning, and season with salt and pepper if necessary.

  • Step 3: Serve ... A braised pork roast is a great dish to serve with this. This is a fantastic side dish which is very easy to make. ENJOY!
