"Makes 2 cakes"
Dissolve yeast in Warm water.
Add buttermilk, eggs, 2 1/2 cup flour, butter, sugar, baking powder and salt. Mix till smooth.
Add enough remaining dough to make dough easily handled. Dough will remain soft and slightly sticky.
Turn out onto well floured surface and knead 5 minutes.
Let dough rest.
Divide dough in half.
Roll each half of the dough into a 15x9 rectangle.
Spread each rectangle with butter and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and raisins.
Roll up dough, beginning at the wide side. Repeat with other rectangle.
With seam side down, form two rings on a lightly greased baking sheet. Pinch ends of each ring together to seal.
Make cuts with scissors 2/3 of the way through rings, at 1 inch intervals, truning each interval to its side.
Let rise until double.
Bake 25 - 30 minutes at 375.
Garnish with frosting, nuts, or cherries.
