President (Pat) Nixon Beef Tamale Pie
"Most folks used a lean ground beef mix, but the Nixon's used minced steak (rich people problems lol), if you want, you can use ground beef, I won't tell lol. This is one of the older tamale pie recipe, we ate it a bunch in California and the recipe has evolved so....., but it is good to see some of what the first families actually ate."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2
Whisk cornmeal into salted boiling water until thick, stir continuously.
Step 3
Heat bacon grease and add onions, season lightly.
Step 4
When light brown add steak, cook until brown.
Step 5
Add chili powder, tomatoes and pimentos.
Step 6
Simmer for 5 minutes and season to taste.
Step 7
In greased 9x13 Casserole, put 1/2 the cooked cornmeal.
Step 8
Add filling and top with rest of the cooked cornmeal.
Step 9
Bake for 90 minutes.
Step 10
Garnish with olives.
