"I found this recipe on another website a long time ago and although I am a major chocolate lover this cake is the top of my favourites list. So that's saying a lot! Sometimes I omit the nuts and it still turns out great."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease one 8x8 inch square pan.

Step 2

Cream the butter, add the sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy.

Step 3

Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the maple flavoring - double if using imitation.

Step 4

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5

Add the flour mixture in 3 parts alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour.

Step 6

Stir in the walnuts and pour in the prepared pan.

Step 7

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until an toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Let cake cool then frost with Maple Butter Frosting.

Step 9

Can make into cupcakes too, just adjust baking time accordingly.

I was hoping to make this delicious cake sooner it was one I chose for a recipe game but it was just to hot to put an oven on, I did finally make it and very glad to have found such a wonderful cake recipe all in my family loved it, thank you for your recipe Roxanne
