Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease one 8x8 inch square pan.
Step 2: Cream the butter, add the sugar and continue creaming until light and fluffy.
Step 3: Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the maple flavoring - double if using imitation.
Step 4: Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 5: Add the flour mixture in 3 parts alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
Step 6: Stir in the walnuts and pour in the prepared pan.
Step 7: Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until an toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 8: Let cake cool then frost with Maple Butter Frosting.
Step 9: Can make into cupcakes too, just adjust baking time accordingly.
