Step by Step Method

FOR ORANGE-CHIPOTLE MAYONNAISE

Step 1

Mix all ingredients in small bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

FOR JERK SAUCE

Step 2

Finely chop first 4 ingredients in processor. Add sugar and next 3 ingredients; process until almost smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

Step 3

Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat). Set aside 3/4 cup jerk sauce. Shape ground beef into six 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick patties; place in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Pour 1/2 cup jerk sauce over patties and turn to coat; let stand 20 minutes.

Step 4

Sprinkle patties with salt and pepper. Grill to desired doneness, brushing occasionally with remaining jerk sauce, about 4 minutes per side for medium.

Step 5

Spread mayonnaise over cut surfaces of buns. Place burgers on bottom halves of buns. Top with onion slices, tomato slices, lettuce, and bun tops. Serve, passing reserved 3/4 cup jerk sauce separately.

Chipotle chilies canned in a spicy tomato sauce, sometimes called adobo, are available at Latin American markets, specialty foods stores, and some supermarkets

If you like flavor, you’ll love these burgers. Packed with scrumptious flavor that made every bite oh-so-good. It’s been raining all week, so grilling these days is happening indoors, so cooked it over a cast iron grilling pan on my stovetop. We loved both sauces schmeared on. I did top it with some cheese, because if I hadn’t my family would have accused me of sacrilege. Can’t wait to try these again on the outdoor grill for that smokey charcoal flavor experience. So good. Thank you, Marra, for sharing. Made it for FYC.

This is possibly the best burger I've ever had! And it proves that some things are simply better than the sum of their parts! The jerk sauce is to die for, even though my jalapenos weren't spicy enough. I'll use a Habanero chile next time. For those of you who can't tolerate or don't like spiciness, you can adjust the amount of chipotle and jalapeno to suit your likes. Don't be afraid, or you'll miss out on this excellent burger! The orange-chipotle mayo was awesome, too - but couldn't really taste the orange. Next time will add a drop or two of orange essential oil, or some orange zest to amp up the flavor. Regardless, this is amazingly good. Don't hesitate to make it! This is going into my Best of 2023 list immediately.
