"Ever wonder what to do with those green ends from the leeks? I hate waste so a while back I tried dehydrating them, and guess what, it worked great! I dehydrate them regularly now, and then crush them to use in soups and stews."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Chop off the wilted black ends, if any, and discard.

Step 2

Clean the leafy green ends well, ensuring there is no sand or mud on them.

Step 3

Place them on a clean towel and allow to dry.

Step 4

Chop them into 2-inch pieces and place them on the dehydrator racks.

Step 5

Dehydrate at 155 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 to 8 hours, until completely dried and crisp.

Step 6

Allow to cool for 30 minutes and pour into a large bowl.

Step 7

Crush with your hands or pulverize into a powder with a spice grinder.

Step 8

Store in a sealed jar until ready to use.

I made this recipe using the whole Leek and the Leeks dehydrated really well. I will be doing some more so I can grind some and store some as they are for casseroles, soups and stews. I can't wait to try them!
