"Light orange flavour, lovely texture. If you like add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. The recipe is originaly from all recipes by Carol."
Preheat oven 350F.
Grease 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
Beat the egg slightly. Add butter and sugar, beat until smooth.
Pour orange juice and zest into an 8 oz measuring cup..Add boiling water to the 1 cup mark (apprx 1/3 cup).
Stir zest, juice and vanilla into the batter
In another bowl place flour, baking powder, soda and salt..Add dates, mix.
Pour flour into the batter..Mix gently just to moisten.
Spoon into prepared loaf pan.
Bake in 350f oven for appprx 1 hour or until a toothpick comes our clean.
Cool 10 minutes.
