"When my husband and I were first married, we lived in an apartment on Clifton Street. We got together with some of our neighbors to put this recipe together. Note: I'm not sure if this is clear in the instructions, but you can make this with just the beef, just the shrimp, or some of both."

  • If using ground beef, make sure to get lean ground beef for the best flavor.
  • If using shrimp, make sure to buy peeled and deveined shrimp for easier preparation.

  • Ground beef: Ground turkey - This substitution is beneficial because turkey is a leaner meat than beef, so it will provide the same flavor without as much fat.
  • Mushrooms: Bell peppers - This substitution is beneficial because bell peppers are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants, and they will provide a great flavor and color to the lasagna.

Vegetarian Lasagna Replace the ground beef or shrimp with cooked vegetables of your choice, such as zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Omit the butter used to sauté the meat or shrimp and use olive oil instead.

Garlic Bread: This classic side dish is the perfect accompaniment to lasagna. The buttery, garlicky flavor of garlic bread pairs perfectly with the savory flavors of the lasagna, and its crunchy texture adds a nice contrast to the soft, cheesy layers of the dish.

Caesar Salad: This classic salad is the perfect way to add a light, refreshing flavor to the meal. The crisp, crunchy lettuce and creamy Caesar dressing provide a great contrast to the rich, savory flavors of the lasagna, and the Parmesan cheese adds a salty, savory element that pairs perfectly with the garlic bread.
