"Perfect for a special weekday meal or for cooking your ham when the oven is taken up for the holidays. I love slow cooking ham especially on Sunday's while at church. There isn't anything better than to come home to a waft of hammy aroma, gets your hunger pangs going. Got it from Stephanie O'Dea blogspot."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Use a 6-quart slow cooker. Unwrap the ham, and discard the flavor packet. Place the ham into your insert (flat side down).

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, combine the honey, mustard, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. Smear this paste evenly all over the ham. You can even do this the day before, if you'd like, to let the flavors meld, although it isn't necessary.

Step 3

Pour the juice and add the last little bit with the pulp into the sauce bowl and swirl it around to get all of the "good stuff" out of the bowl. Pour ginger ale evenly over the top. Cover, and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for about 3 hours. (If using using spiral cut ham without the bone, it's better to cook it no more than 6 hours).

Step 4

Your ham can sit in the slow cooker for quite a while on the warm setting before carving, or you can take it out, carve it into pieces, then return it to the pot to stay warm in the yummy sauce until you and your guests are ready to eat.

It's not Christmas, but it was delicious for Easter! We had plenty of room in the oven to bake our sides and get them on the table when the ham was ready. We loved the fruits and spices together. Made such a delicious ham!

First of all I truly appreciate that I could free up the burners on my stove while using the crock pot to make my smoked ham shoulder. All the spices and other ingredients made for a delicious ham! The family requested that I save this recipe as one of their new favs. No better compliment than that!!

The best ham recipe for the crock pot! We eat ham very rarely and this was a real treat! Love the combination of flavours that make this a recipe that will see repeats. Thank you for sharing! UPDATE: Made this wonderful ham again and with some of the leftovers, made ham headcheese with the juice from the ham. Turned out spectacularly! Thanks again!

Made as written for the FF&F What’s on the Menu? Tag Game, altho Iceland doesn’t match the US in their varieties of meats & cuts. I used a boneless Bayonne ham imported from France (“slightly sweet & delicately flavored w/little salt to the taste”). It’s exceptional for its smoky flavor – BUT can be a bit “tough” & that’s why I so love this crockpot method. I was able to get a wonderfully tender ham w/a great honey-mustard flavor that you can’t get here & would pay heavily for in the US. I carved the ham into meal-size portions for 2 of us & stored them in freezer containers w/a share of the lovely meat juices for our dining pleasure in the weeks ahead. Thx for sharing this recipe w/us.
