Step by Step Method

Step 1

Prepare macaroni as directed on package. Use a larger pan than needed for the macaroni. You are going to add to the macaroni later. Drain and add Velveeta to pan. Put lid on pan and set aside without heating.

Step 2

In medium skillet, brown hamburger and onions. Drain grease from mixture.

Step 3

Add the hamburger mixture to the macaroni and cheese mixture in the saucepan. From here you can either finish on the stove top or in the oven.

Step 4

Stove top method. Over low heat, heat and stir until cheese is melted. Add milk to thin, if you prefer.

Step 5

Oven method. After mixing all ingredients together, turn into greased casserole dish. You may use a shallow dish or a deep dish. Shallow will heat quicker and there will be more of a browned top. Deep dish will take longer to heat and be creamier in the center. Bake at 350 degrees 15-25 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and top is browned.

I made this recipe on 6/12 for mine and my SO's Dinner, and since there was just the two of us only half was made.Due to what was on hand a few changes were made to the recipe.Instead of using the pasta the recipe called for, medium sized shell pasta was used.I replaced the milk with half & half, also instant onion was used instead of fresh(read:I was lazy ;)). While the beef was browning, some ground black pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder was added.Since I'm a cheese freak, the full amount of Velveeta was used. Before baking, I did add some shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the top. Both my SO and I gave this recipe a good " SOLID 4 *'s ". Thanks for posting and, " Keep Smiling :) "
