"I was lucky enough to have some leftover ham from Christmas,and decided to use it as part of my New Year's Day Dinner. I've used bacon " drippings " to brown the onions in,even though it wouldn't taste the same you could use canola oil for the onions. Since I didn't list any salt and pepper in the list of ingredients, I'll leave the amounts up to you. To make this part of real " Southern Style Comfort Meal " serve it with #recipe4532, #recipe10767,and your favorite leafy green veggie. Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a medium sized sauce pan over medium heat, melt the bacon drippings until hot but not smoking and add onions.
Step 2
Cook onions until slightly softened and lightly browned.
Step 3
Add ham and cook until lightly browned.
Step 4
Then add beans and reserved liquid,bring to a boil.
Step 5
Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 to 25 minutes,stirring occasionally.
