Step 1: In a medium sized sauce pan over medium heat, melt the bacon drippings until hot but not smoking and add onions.
Step 2: Cook onions until slightly softened and lightly browned.
Step 3: Add ham and cook until lightly browned.
Step 4: Then add beans and reserved liquid,bring to a boil.
Step 5: Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 to 25 minutes,stirring occasionally.
