"It is NOT a hot dog. It is a cheese stuffed hamburger, shaped round like a hot dog, seasoned and grilled, and served on a hot dog roll. If you make the dogs about 7-8" long, they will fit into a hot dog roll nicely once they are grilled, as they do shrink during grilling. You can make them smaller if you like, just adjust the size of the cheese stick. I slice my block of cheese into 8 pieces, making sure each one is about 6 inch by 1/2 inch thick. You won't use all of them, but the extras are great to munch on for a snack. You can change up what type of cheese you use, and you can also wrap each one in a piece of bacon, if you like, before grilling. Kids love these things almost as much as they do hot dogs! I have wrapped mine in a Joseph's Multigrain Flatbread half, and make them smaller to cut way down on the calories. I recently started wrapping them in lettuce leaves to cut out the carbs too!"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Slice the cheese into sticks (about the size of a string cheese).

Step 2

Season the ground beef with salt and pepper (or your favorite seasoning mix, I like to use garlic and onion powder) and split it up into 5-6 palm-sized balls.

Step 3

Flatten each ball out into a rectangle, and place a cheese stick horizontally down the middle. Roll it up, making sure that the ground beef is evenly covering the cheese stick.

Step 4

Place the soon-to-be burger dogs on a hot grill. Grill for 6-10 minutes, turning the dogs when charred grill marks appear on a side. You’ll need to do 3-4 turns (or more) to make sure you have even cooking around each dog.

Step 5

Burgers should be done when some cheese starts oozing out along with meat juice.

Step 6

Serve on hot dog buns with your favorite burger or hot dog condiments.

We loved these, especially my son! He liked that he could have it in a hot roll. Thought that was pretty cool! Tasty and makes a quick lunch. Thumbs up!

I made these to have with Mac n Cheese and used the grill on my stove. I used a little liquid smoke in the meat and it tasted like it was right off the grill. So good!

You know how the little ones don't eat a whole hamburger and waste so much food, well I know my grandchildren do! I saw this and thought, this is my solution to wasted food! I made these up and put them on the grill for the kids that we had at our annual 4th family gathering and they disappeared as fast as I could make them! Genius idea we have here!!
