Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2

Put the first 5 ingredients (-molasses) into a large ovenproof pot or a bean pot and stir to combine.

Step 3

Top mixture with onion slices and then lay the bacon over the top in a single layer.

Step 4

Bake, uncovered, until the bacon is crisp and the beans are hot and bubbling, about one hour.

Step 5

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.

Step 6

Stir the onions and bacon into the beans before serving.

These beans were a big hit with the family. Everyone loved them. I added a pound of hamburger because my DH is supposed to eat a lot of protein on Dr's orders. No one realized there was pickle juice in them.
