"A piece of nostalgia from the 50's. This is one of those old-fashioned desserts that you'd see on nearly every dessert table in the 50s and 60s. Jell-O has found a place in many desserts over the years, but this is one has found its way into the popular list."

Original is 6-8 servings

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Prepare lime, orange and 1 package of strawberry Jello as directed on the packages.

Step 2

Pour each flavor into separate 8-inch square pans. Refrigerate 4 hours or until firm. Cut into 1/2 inch cubes; measure 1 1/2 cups of each flavor. (You can use the remaining cubes for garnish if desired, or for snacking).

Step 3

Stir 1 cup boiling water into remaining package of lemon Jello in a medium bowl until dissolved completely. Stir in 1/2 cup cold water. Refrigerate 45 minutes or until slightly thickened (consistency of unbeaten egg whites).

Step 4

Stir in 1/2 of the Cool Whip. Gently stir in measured gelatin cubes.

Step 5

Pour into a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Refrigerate overnight.

Step 6

Unmold and garnish with remaining gelatin cubes and whipped topping, if desired

Tastes just like I remembered from my childhood! Unfortunately, I got carried away on Netflix and the lemon jello set a little too much before adding the cool whip, so it didn't incorporate very well (my fault). It still set up, but was very loose and not as pretty as I would have liked. Also, following the package directions for the cubed jello was also loose, and next time will use less water for each of those flavors so that the cubes hold up better. (That, or maybe use Jello brand instead of Walmart brand - LOL). Bottom line, this time around it wasn't very pretty, but it still took me back to when I was a tyke and this was our after-school snack. Oh, and next time might try all sugar-free ingredients , to lessen the sugar rush!!!
