Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large saucepan, melt butter on medium heat. Add mushrooms and onions. Cook till onions are soft.

Step 2

Stir in flour till completely absorbed by butter. Cook about 3 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.

Step 3

Add in dry mustard, salt and pepper and stir.

Step 4

Slowly add chicken stock and mix with a large wire whisk as you're pouring stock to prevent lumps.

Step 5

Slowly pour in half & half whisking in.

Step 6

Cook till heated, but not to a boil, stirring often.

Step 7

Serve with grilled cheese sandwiches or some crusty garlic bread.
