Step by Step Method
Step 1
Butter a 15 by 10, by 1 inch pan and set aside.
Step 2
Combine sugar, corn syrup, vinegar and salt in a heavy saucepan.
Step 3
Cook over low heat until sugar is dissolved.
Step 4
Bring to a boil over medium heat then slowly add milk.
Step 5
Cook and stir until candy thermometer reads 248. Remove from heat and add the peppermint oil and food coloring.
Step 6
Pour into prepared pan and let stand 8 minutes or until cool enough to handle.
Step 7
Butter fingers well and quickly pull candy until it is firm, but pliable. The color should become a light pink.
Step 8
Pull into a 1/2 inch wide rope and cut into 1 inch pieces. Wrap pieces in waxed paper.
