Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Add hard peppermint candies to a food processor or blender and pulse until candy is crushed. In a large bowl add flour and 1/4 cup of the crushed candy. Set aside remaining candy and flour mixture.

Step 2

In another large bowl add butter or margarine, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, vanilla and beat together until well combined. Stir in flour mixture and salt blending between additions.

Step 3

Shape dough into 1 inch balls and place on a ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake cookies until set but not brown, approximately 8 to 9 minutes. Remove cookies from cookie sheet and roll in powdered sugar immediately. Wait 10 minutes and roll sugared cookies into reserved crushed peppermint candies.

These are wonderful cookies. It's the first batch of cookies I made for this year's family Christmas party, so I was excited to delve in and get them baked. The crushed peppermint candy adds a nice minty touch to the cookies. They're perfect for the holidays. I followed the recipe as written (with no adjustments or changes), and it was enough to make 33 cookies. And mine baked at exactly 9 minutes total (at 400°), so the instructions are right on target. Thanks for the recipe. Made for Football Pool, Week #14.

These are so buttery good and just the right amount of peppermint. Not overpowering. They make up so cute and just like you noted, perfect for goodie trays with the peppermint flavoring. A nice find and one I"ll go back to again.
