"My mother-in-law made the best biscuits in the world. I have tried to make them like hers but have failed. I tried many recipes and this is the one that I came up with about 30 years ago. It is as close to hers as I can get. Even my husband says that they are like hers."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Put the first 5 ingredients in a bowl and mix; then cut in with a pastry blender the shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 2
Add the buttermilk all at once and stir only until the dough follows the fork around the bowl.
Step 3
Turn out on a lightly floured board and knead gently to pull together about 1/2 minute; pat or roll about 1/2" thick and cut with biscuit cutter.
Step 4
Bake on ungreased sheet at 460 degrees for about 10-12 minutes.
