"With the rising cost of groceries, I am even more conscious than ever of food waste... and do everything I can to avoid it. Leftover hamburger buns (or hot dog buns) become garlic breadsticks. My kids love them as a side or to dip them in garlic butter or marinara sauce. It uses up what's in the pantry and fills bellies. You can adjust the seasonings to have more garlic, use less or more (or no) herbs, etc."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Take each split hamburger bun and open it up.

Step 3

Using a rolling pin, gently roll each half of the bun flat until it becomes thinner, about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) thick.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, granulated garlic, and Italian seasoning.

Step 5

Place the rolled bun halves on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.

Step 6

Brush the top side of each flattened bun half with the melted butter mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

Step 7

Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered surfaces of the buns.

Step 8

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the breadsticks turn golden and crispy.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the breadsticks cool slightly.

Step 10

Using a sharp knife, cut the breadsticks into slices of desired thickness.
