The main dishes were for most part an amazing variety of casseroles along with meatballs, mini sausages, chili con carne, sweet and sour dishes were very popular. Many of these dishes are still the crowd pleasers they were back then.
One casserole that is an absolute favourite in our area is a golden oldie.

Two that were favourites back then and still see the dish come home empty are meatball dishes.

Layered salads and bean salads were very popular as well and still impress, several of my favourite salads for pot luck

Two desserts that are also golden oldies popular in the 70's, they remain a favourite on the dessert tables of today.

Though not for a potluck, cheesecake came into it's hay day in the '70s, too. I'm trying to think of something your list overlooked, but it's not coming easy.

Many of the 70's dishes have stood the test of time, surpringingly one is seeing a good many recipes showing up at the potlucks and yes like you Deepster we still enjoy a good many of them!Deepster wrote:No, no, no, Kc! Tell me this ain't true! These are still things that I eat now.Say it's not so that I am 35-40 years outdated....Heheee!

Another favourite from back then that I loved for a starter, shrimp cocktail. Shrimp in special martini glasses or pretty stemware topped with seafood sauce ... I will have to make that the next time I have a little gathereing! Way to much work to take to a pot luck though! A touch pricy here as well.
Plenty of great food still around from the seventies for sure! You are right on with the 70's and cheesecake! Here it does work great for the dessert end at potlucks.
I make it in a 9 x 13 pan and as I'm sure you can guess - pan comes home empty! Seeing the dissaponted faces when I get back home with an empty dish I have been making two of everything I take ... Well most times!

I'm still trying to think of something that is so destinctivly 70s that everyone at a potluck would be astounded, and probably a bit shocked that they have aged so much!
