Step by Step Method
Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F.
Step 2
In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.

Beat in vanilla and egg yolk until blended.
Step 4
On low speed, beat in flour, hazelnuts, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
Step 5
Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
Step 6
On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls 2 inches apart.
Step 7
Bake 10 minutes.
Step 8
Using end of handle of wooden spoon, press a well into center of each cookie.
Step 9
Fill each well with 1/2 teaspoon preserves.
Step 10
Bake about 10 minutes longer or until edges are light golden.
Step 11
Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
