"An alum from my high school owns a vanilla and flavoring company. This is based on one of their many recipes! Prep time includes time to let the orange simple syrup cool. What you don't use, you can refrigerate for a couple weeks."

Step 1

Make the simple syrup - boil water, sugar and orange peels. Cook until sugar dissolves, stir occasionally. Cool

Step 2

For the drink: In a cocktail shaker, muddle fresh strawberries until juices are released.

Step 3

Add lime juice, simple syrup and whiskey or bourbon.

Step 4

Shake well and pour into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
