Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix flour, salt and Italian seasoning with a wire whisk.
Step 2
Using a thermometer, make sure your water is NO MORE than 120°F. If it is, it will kill the yeast.
Step 3
Pour 1/2 cup of the water in another large bowl along with the 2 tablespoons of sugar and the oil.
Step 4
With the other 1/2 cup of warm water, add the 1 teaspoon sugar and the yeast. Stir gently with a fork to mix in the yeast. Let set for about 5 minutes to let the yeast "bloom" or foam up. If it doesn't foam up, your yeast is too old and you'll have to get new.
Step 5
When yeast is "bloomed", add it to the water/oil/sugar mixture and stir in.
Step 6
Add flour mixture in 1 cup at a time and stir in. I use a wire whisk until it's too stiff to stir. Then I use my hands.
Step 7
Turn out onto a clean, floured surface and knead dough for 10 minutes. Only add in additional flour enough so it doesn't stick to your hands or the working surface.
Step 8
Place dough ball in a large bowl that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, until it's doubled in size.
Step 9
Punch dough down with your fist and place on a pizza pan that has been brushed with oil and very lightly sprinkled with corn meal. Spread out the dough with your hands by gently pressing it out toward the edges, turning the pan as you go.
Step 10
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Step 11
Add your favorite sauce and toppings. Bake in oven for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and bottom of the crust is lightly browned. Enjoy!
