Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 2
Soak prunes in boiling water for 30 minutes, drain and set aside.
Step 3
Combine oil, sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, salt and vanilla in bowl.
Step 4
Add eggs and beat well for 2 minutes.
Step 5
Combine soaked prunes and buttermilk in blender container and chop finely.
Step 6
Add to oil mixture with sifted flour, baking soda and baking powder and beat well.
Step 7
Turn into well-greased and floured 13x9-inch baking pan or 2 (8-inch) round layer-cake pans.
Step 8
Bake for 30 minutes, or until wood pick inserted near center comes out clean.
Step 9
Frosting: Bring water to boil.
Step 10
Remove from heat and beat in shortening and corn syrup.
Step 11
Add powdered sugar, cocoa, salt and vanilla.
Step 12
Beat to spreading consistency.
