Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 2: Soak prunes in boiling water for 30 minutes, drain and set aside.
Step 3: Combine oil, sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, salt and vanilla in bowl.
Step 4: Add eggs and beat well for 2 minutes.
Step 5: Combine soaked prunes and buttermilk in blender container and chop finely.
Step 6: Add to oil mixture with sifted flour, baking soda and baking powder and beat well.
Step 7: Turn into well-greased and floured 13x9-inch baking pan or 2 (8-inch) round layer-cake pans.
Step 8: Bake for 30 minutes, or until wood pick inserted near center comes out clean.
Step 9: Frosting: Bring water to boil.
Step 10: Remove from heat and beat in shortening and corn syrup.
Step 11: Add powdered sugar, cocoa, salt and vanilla.
Step 12: Beat to spreading consistency.
