Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place waxed paper in a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan. Set it aside.

Step 2

Mix the butter and the 1 cup of sugar together in a bowl. Add the egg, orange juice, the zest, and the salt, then mix well.

Step 3

Add the flour and baking soda until it is also mixed well.

Step 4

Next, divide the dough evenly into thirds. Press one third of the dough into the bottom of the 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.

Step 5

Place another third of the dough back into the mixing bowl, adding the orange food coloring until it is well mixed. Place the orange dough on top of the white dough in the 9 x 5 inch loaf, pressing it down.

Step 6

In a clean mixing bowl, place the remaining third of the dough, adding the yellow food coloring, mixing it well. Add it to the loaf pan, pressing it down.

Step 7

Cover the pan with plastic wrap and put the loaf pan into the refrigerator for at least two hours or overnight, until firm.

Step 8

WHEN READY TO COOK

Step 9

Heat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 10

Put 1/2 cup sugar into a bowl.

Step 11

Turn over the loaf pan to remove the dough, taking off the wax paper.

Step 12

Cut the dough into 1/4 inch slices. Trim the edges if you want a sharp, even cut. Cut each of the slices into 6 wedges.

Step 13

Place the wedges onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 7 to 10 minutes. Cool for 1 minute and remove them from the cookie sheet.

Step 14

Roll the cookies into the sugar and place them on waxed paper to cool.

Do I ever wish I had this recipe when my kids were little; they would have been so excited. But in place of little ones, my big boy hubs loves candy corn and yep, he loved these cookies and so did the rest of us. It came out tender and buttery with a plesing flavor. Easy to make too! Thank you, WAIGEN, for sharing. Made it for tag game “For your Consideration.
