"I love Butterkuchen...probably too much...in fact, remove the word probably... This is a yeasted coffeecake, somewhere between a pastry and a cake, with a yummy topping. It only has to rise for 45 minutes, so it's do-able for weekends."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a pyrex mixing bowl, combine milk, sugar, salt and butter. Heat in microwave until butter is melted.
Step 2
Meanwhile, in small bowl, dissolve both packets of yeast into warm water with a pinch of sugar.
Step 3
Measure flour into another mixing bowl. Add eggs and stir slightly, until just combined.
Step 4
Add melted butter mixture and stir just a little.
Step 5
Add yeast and stir just enough so that all ingredients are incorporated.
Step 6
Spread dough into a greased 10 x 13 pan and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
Step 7
While dough is rising, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Step 8
Mix together topping ingredients and sprinkle over dough.
Step 9
Place in oven over a halfsheet to catch any syrup that runs over the top.
Step 10
Bake for 22-27 minutes, being careful not to overbake. You want the top golden and syrupy.
Step 11
Serve warm.
