We don't have a veggie garden, i am only able to grow a few herbs among the flowers, most of them grow really well but this year i have trouble with the basil :(
it is sooo sad looking, not sure what to do with it, any suggestions :?:

here are the rest of them looking pretty good so far, i know the rosemary probably will not survive next winter but i took a risk and planted it any way cus all the potted ones i've ever had died even when i took them in for the winter.

Mexican oregano

Thyme - grows like a weed - all down one side of the house
Image
Chives - keeps the aphids off the roses
Image
Parsley - in clumps all over - and a little cilantro
Image
Red mint - in a pot underground so it won't spread so much

Except for the basil and the rosemary they are all about 17 years old, planted them all when we moved into the house, they have all faithfully come back every year :D

Very nice Derf. I can't wait to head out to camp to take some pics of what I have there, but it won't be until next week.

I had a heck of a time with my basil last year, the slugs kept getting at it and then a neighbour reminded me that slugs like beer so I poured a little beer in a cup that I put in the earth next to the basil and it worked beautifully. Yours does not look chewed up though. I wonder what has happened to it.

Which herbs come back every year without replanting? I didn't know that! I knew some did, but OMG What beauties your herbs are.

all except the Rosemary and the Basil, of mine, come back every year :D
Depending on where ya live the Rosemary would come back too, but it dosen't like heavy winters.

Well living in MN, I am surprised even the trees live through the winter! Crap it gets cold!

I'm never up early enough for our Farmer's Markets.

And as much as I enjoy nature and plants, I don't have a garden either because I don't go outside in the hot hot sun during growing season. 8-)

I do have an Aprium Tree that is loaded this year though, and I've been testing out recipes. I made an Apricot Nectar which I used in lemonade and tea. Then I made Microwaved Apricot Bars based on Derf's Date Bar recipe, with some coconut tweaks, which turned out super fabulous, and I think I'll post the recipe. I also made some Apricot Balsamic Chicken which was wonderful, but I loosely based it on a recipe I found and didn't write down my changes. It's fun to get an abundance of a fresh ingredient and try out new ways to use it! :D

I also went Boysenberry picking, but just made a double batch of my vanilla Blancmange and served it with the Boysenberries that were tossed with sugar. The same farm we picked boysenberries at picked us some fresh red and green leaf lettuce and so dinner was a lovely garden salad with ranch dressing, poached salmon, and french bread with butter. Dessert was the blancmange with boysenberries. :D

I took photos of most of this which I'll be posting, but the only one that would count as a tag I think here would be the Apricot Bar recipe I'll be posting...
