Curry is one of those things that I have come to like over time. I actually never even encountered the smell of it until I moved out on my own at 19, into a East Indian basement suite. I then got pregnant at the time and well the smell of curry every night, I was sure I would hate curry forever. It wasn't until I was in cooking school 5 years later that I actually liked the smell of curry, and the taste of it. It took a few more years before I actually made it. I think that most of my spices for curry need to be turfed soon as they aren't that pungent anymore.
Today I got around to using more from my spice drawer. I made some soup for lunch today, using left over cooked steak I had in the freezer, some barley I had sitting in the cupboard, and some parsnips, carrots, onions, celery, mushrooms, I bought a couple weeks ago, and beef bouillon powder I always have on hand. I used basil, oregano, thyme and bay leaves from my spice drawer.
I will use some more spices later when I start cooking some ribs I bought on Saturday. I am going to make up 4 racks of ribs, with seasonings, then 2 racks are going for dinner and 2 will head to the freezer for a quick dinner some other day. I found it is faster to have precooked seasoned ribs ready than trying to defrost and cook later. I will probably use onion powder, garlic powder, seasoning salt, and not sure what else yet. I will be using Honey Garlic BBQ Sauce to smoother them later. I plan on using some organic sweet potatoes that I got a couple weeks ago as a side dish, just not sure how to do them up. I was thinking just baked.
