Tally so far among friends: two houses demolished, one dog lost (not physically lost, they found him in the rubble), two houses with severe damage, and one garden (fully planted) gone. All around Tupelo. One of the houses was my friend's in-laws, who weren't home... because they were in Arkansas getting his chemo treatment, dodging the tornado there. Sitting way up here is a horribly helpless feeling, not able to do anything to help them. :(

Dinner tonight? I haven't a clue. I'll have to see what's in the freezer; tomorrow is grocery day and I have no motivation to do anything that doesn't involve staying on my computer to see what else I can find out.

OMG Felix, so sorry to hear that. On the other hand; they are alive. As hard as it is, they are still safe and have one another. It is tragic; and prayers go out to your friends and loved ones.

I do hope they were insured. The dog- hearts are broken! I would be devastated.
Maybe getting out to buy some groceries will help take your mind off it, Felix.
It's kind of like with my brother still being in the coma since December. There is not a single thing I can do, but trying to keep busy and not think about it is all I can do. A person could drive themselves crazy thinking about things out of their control.
I think you may be like me- I am a fixer, someone who gets things done, and it can be really hard when there is nothing that can be done. SO frustrating. And sad to watch ones we care about suffer.
I am sure they know how much you are concerned and maybe that is some small comfort to them.

Morning!

Wow, all the weather and devastation. Now, in Panama City; I have lots of friends up there. Water in many of their homes. Another friend was in Jacksonville, and could hear the tornado while she was watching TV. It was just north of her. Some scary stuff.

Last night ended up soup and sandwiches; but, just me. GF had to work late. Today, I'm heading over to help with the refinishing of her antique piece; and, we will be having her artichokes she promised, :D

Today's Cooking ...

Lady #3: Company has left
- Making a pot of Florentine Chicken Stew, fruit salad, and home made bread
- Roast beef sandwich spread, and creamy leek soup, marinated vegetable salad

Me: Cajun catfish cakes; polenta (freezer stash); some type of succotash

Roasted radishes for lunch. Those are quite good!
Not sure what dinner plans are.

Everyone escaped further weather damage, and most of them were able to get tarps attached to holes in roofs before the rain came again. They're holding their own at this point, so I've had a chance to regroup a little. Sorry to hear your friends are dealing with flooding, Kim.

Today I'm picking myself up and living my life. It helps that my Griffins are back in town leading Round 1 of the Calder Cup playoffs 2-0, which means tonight's home game could well be the end of their sweep to move on. Dinner will be from the pizza place around the corner, where I've not been since last fall.

So sorry for everyone going through so much down south. Sorry for everyone who knows people involved in these losses. Its horrible.

I didn't feel like cooking much today, so made my old standby when I don't want to cook meal. Under 40 minutes you are eating. I made fried potatoes, a side salad and Kielbasa and vegetables. My veggies were cabbage, onions, tomatoes and bell peppers. All things that needed to be used up in my fridge. The 1/2 cabbage needed to be used soon, the tomatoes, onions and bells were leftovers from taco's. So it helped me to clean out the fridge. Good supper.

With my back, I was hurting. I delivered the meals to Lady #3; then, laid flat. I ended up with another container of chicken barley soup in the freezer. I toasted a baguette with some garlic butter to dip and was done. I did have some cheese and crackers to earlier; and finished with some melon I had cut up in the fridge.
I figured that was good enough.

I did make the fish cakes, so they are in the freezer for later.

Dinner ...

If my back is ok, chicken I have in the freezer pre-marinated (a worcestershire / citrus sauce) skewered with zucchini and summer squash. Also, a side of grape tomato skewers; and mushroom rice.

Maybe leftovers for lunch tomorrow.
