"We bought some fresh albacore tuna and canned most of it but we also froze some for these tasty nuggets...I got the recipe from a tuna loving neighbor. We like to serve it with oven fries and coleslaw."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oil in skillet or deep fryer to a temperature of 350°F.

Step 2

Prepare tempura batter per package directions, set aside.

Step 3

Place panko crumbs in a pie plate.

Step 4

Preheat oven to 225°F to keep tuna nuggets warm. Have pie plate with paper towels on it ready to place fried tuna on and keep warm in the oven.

Step 5

When oil comes to temperature, put a few tuna nuggets in the tempura batter to coat. Shake off any excess batter and put in panko crumbs. Then begin to place in hot oil, but do not crowd them. You will have to do them in batches. Just make sure you keep the oil at 350° F. If it drops below, let it come back up before you fry the rest. Carefully remove them as they become brown and place them on plate with paper towels and keep warm in the oven, as you finish frying the rest.

Step 6

You may need to increase the panko crumbs based on the amount that is used.

I cut it down to 1 serving for myself. Easy and so delicious! I had lemon to squirt over the top and dipped in ketchup. Had some fries to go with it too.
