I also always put vinegar in my butter when I am eating lobster or steamed clams or mussels... I just love the added flavor... YUM!
I love mustard, and sometimes will just have a mustard and pickle sandwich, or when I was little mustard and bologne but never just mustard.
Love the idea of adding vinegar to butter for steamed clams.

The ones that come to mind for me are: scrambled eggs with ketchup, cooked white rice with cinnamon sugar and milk, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with BBQ chips in them, dried beef sandwiches, liverwurst sandwiches...
Is there anything like that that you eat?
The rice might be a Scandinavian thing, Tif. My grandfather was from Norway and grandma would always make extra rice when serving it for dinner, so we could have cold rice with milk and cinnamon sugar later that evening.
I'm from Northern Germany and we would have the same thing. Sometimes it would be with buttermilk rather than plain milk.
The weirdest thing I remember at this moment is when I ordered spaghetti in a restaurant in Quebec. It came with spaghetti noodles and french fries covered in spaghetti sauce

I just started loving buttermilk in recent years...this is a new idea of what to try it on! Usually I stick with smoothies.
French Canadians sure do have the weirdest combos.

Mom used to send me to school with either Liverwurst sandwiches with mustard on them or Cream Cheese & Jam sandwiches on wheat bread - the kids thought it was weird, I still love both.
I love to get my bologna cut ultra thick at the deli counter. In Germany, the bologna meat comes in numerous variations - studded with olives, mushrooms, peppers, etc - I would get an assortment and that would be breakfast (a typical German breakfast is a plate of cold deli meats).
I learned to love crushed potato chips on my tuna sandwiches when I was in high school. One of my friends ate hers that way. I also love tuna with relish mixed into the mayo, the way my grandmother makes it. Another way I eat tuna is mixed with corn and served over baked potatoes (a popular dish in England).
Speaking of England, when I lived in London, I learned to love eating beans with my breakfast. I fit right in eating my fries doused in malt vinegar, which I also shook all over my fish. I also love salt & vinegar potato chips.
I love peanut butter & banana sandwiches as well as peanut butter and tomato sandwiches (with black pepper sprinkled on the tomatoes).
I love adding marshmallows, coconut, or sour cream to things, sweet or savory things. My daughter will eat anything with sour cream on it - she often takes a small tub with her and eats it like dip.
I learned to eat pinto beans with pickled watermelon rind on top, so the pickles in chili thing doesn't sound bad to me at all. I might have to try it!
I lived in Louisiana for a few years and learned to eat my gumbo with a big dollop of mashed potato potato salad dropped on top of the bowl.

Too me there really aren't too many things that I find weird - I guess if you look at my recipes you all may see many combinations that you may think are weirdos. I love to try everything and try some really weird combinations. If they sound different - I'll try it.
The rice porridge is very Danish - served Christmas Eve with an almond in it - Find the almond and you will win a prize. Then next day the left over porridge has eggs, almond flavor etc added and you have a wonderful rice pudding

Surprisingly good!
I really enjoyed reading over the old posts, Engrossed, and I noticed that some dishes -- like the cream cheese appetizer above -- have gone through several variations over the years. I first had it with "Pickapeppa" sauce in Louisiana
http://www.pickapeppa.com/ and then with jalapeno jelly warmed and poured over a scored block of Philly. Around Thanksgiving, I've enjoyed it with a cranberry-orange relish on top. Most recently, I enjoyed the same dish with the commercial version of Raspberry/Chipotle sauce

Certainly the ease of preparation will ensure that this treat stays with us, but it's delicious in all it's forms.

I just remembered something else - my mom sometimes would make me scrambled egg sandwiches on wheat or rye with lettuce and mayo when I was sick home from school. For some reason that ALWAYS tasted so good. I don't like mayo on many things, especially sandwiches and with eggs??? But on this it worked for me - makes me want some now, actually.
Helloo.... breakfast is calling....

Wow, Heather you sure do have a lot of weird combos
Some I like too, but you also gave me some ideas for some new ones like the tuna and corn over a potato...is there anything else added? Love Liverwurst...but I grew up eating it on soft white bread with iceberg lettuce and either mayo or soft margarine spread on the bread. I crave it every once in awhile.
