Is Cool Whip really nasty as they say it is? I kind of like using it I like the taste but I hear some really bad things about it like it's all chemicals and not good for you, what's your take on this?

Really, is there anything nowadays that IS good for you? I think not! even foods that say organic really are not 100% organic! I use Cool Whip not a lot but I have for some desserts I find it holds up better that whipped cream although I do prefer the flavor of real cream I think anything in moderation is okay so don't feel bad about using Cool Whip there's much worse things that we can put into our body!

It's no worse for you than any other processed food. Yes, it's technically "chemicals". But have you read the ingredient list on ANYTHING? I do prefer actual whipped cream for toppings on desserts, but real whipped cream does not hold up when used in desserts like Cool Whip does. Real whipped cream lacks the stabilizers (read: chemicals) Cool Whip has, which means it loses its form much quicker.

I agree Felix!

Well, it's like this:
1. Anything can kill you.
2. Something will.
So don't worry too much. Unless you're digging in with a spoon and eating it like ice cream, it shouldn't be THAT bad.

I think Kitten has a recipe for stablized whipped cream that uses real cream that holds up really well. I have made it many times and it will not get weepy for 2 days. It may last longer then that but it doesn't last that long in my house.

I don't know if she has it posted here on Zazz or not. Yoo hoo, kitten. Got that recipe here some where for Jaide to look at?

I like Cool Whip - it is not like I eat it every day anyway. When a recipe calls for a lot, then I will use it or I'll whip up some real cream, if I feel like it.
I actually use Dream Whip more often now, as my bf prefers it - and you can customize it. (Dream Whip is a powdered version - you add milk and vanilla extract and beat it for 4 minutes, then chill - the taste is more like the inside of a melted roasted marshmallow to me, delicious). The Dream can be made with any type of milk, so you can adjust it to suit your fat needs. I like that there is real milk in there.

I really don't eat desserts; but I do now and then and also make them now and then. Yes, I prefer real whipped cream; but I have no problem with cool whip. And yes, it does hold up better.
As said, heck ... I probably have a better chance of dying driving down US 41 during 5pm traffic than I do eating years of cool whip, LOL.
I don't think any processed foods are great to eat in excess; but I have no problem with it.
